Let us know how things go pulling the tractor. I still think that you'll have no problems. I think I would tow it home at 20 mph before I called for your Dad's HD.
ok guys just got back from picking up the tractor and i was impressed. the suspension was a little weak but the motor and tranny did me proud got up to highway speed in short distance and there was no problems
ok just put the truck threw its fisrt heavy load i had 150 bales on the truck and the trailer and motor and i was impressed motor and tranny held strong but i have more loads yet to come
I just bought the 4.6 3v and it tows my 6k trailer with relative ease. the 4.6 3v has 18 less hp then the 5.4, dont recall the torque numbers, but it wont be much off. This thing of mine tows just as good as my buddys 05 with the 5.4.
My 1992 F150 SC long bed, had well over 100K miles, the 5.0l V8 was rated (new) @ 185hp, had no problem pulling my "garden trailer" with 3 pallets of lanscaping block, 7000# total, the wifes 2002 Explorer 4.6l (2V), had some difficulty however the short wheel base made towing this much weight a pain.. This is a lot more weight than when we haul our 2 motorcycles and kayaks. (the Explorer tows that just fine, 3500# + trailer)
The Cash for clunkers deal co-erced me into letting the '92 go, even though I haven't tried yet I believe my 09 w/ the 3V 4.6l (292hp) and trailer towing pacakge will be even better than the old 92.
=> I believe you won't have any problems towing with your 4.6l 3V
I had the same 92 as you....5.0 and scab. It would pull the weight but not a camper with any surface area ......my camper only weighs 2500# and it struggled mightly pulling that at freeway speeds!!!! A low trailer with weight wasn't a problem. My 04 w 5.4 and 3.55's pulls the same camper at 80 if I wanted too....60-65 is nothing.
