4.6 2004 stx

Looking at buying a 2004 STX short box with a 4.6, it has 68,000 miles, can anyone give me a heads up on this model and engine as to durability, gas mileage, what I can expect to replace in the near future...
I'm moving up from my inline 4.9 with 256,000 miles it's been a great truck but I'm getting a little nervous about dependability.
thanks for any response..

The drivetrain is proven. No real issues. I prefer the 5.4L for the torque myself.
I have moved this to a forum where you will get better results.

I own a 2007 STX with the same power train. Truck runs great with almost 68K has never let me down. Gas mileage is about average. best I done was 19 and that was open road. Around town it should get ya around 15-16. My truck does pull good but I should have bought the 5.4...

My '04 has been great! I average 20-22mpg (i drive like a grandpa). It just turned 76,000 miles and knock on wood no major issues!

Thanks for the replies, have yet to see the truck it's 130 miles away, but looks to be in good condition by the pictures I've seen..
I don't really pull anything I'd need the 5.4 torque for, but I'd like to get that 20-22 mpg that's why I'm going for a two wheel drive short box model..
Do you believe it possible to get 150,000 to 200,000 miles out of the drivetrain with the majority of use light duty highway miles?

You should get that mileage no problem. Just keep the oils fresh.

Like Mercman86, I get 20/21 on a trip with my 04 - 4.6...73,000 never any major problem. Don't pull or haul anything large and never felt the need for a larger motor..
