I started my truck and then go to turn on lights, and theres no dash lights, nor running lights. I think its a relay if im right? I check the fuses and they seemed fine. Im just wondering which relay is for the lights? Or is it not a relay? Is it something different?
Sorry, its an 02 f350 7.3. So look again and found the fuse. Its fuse #17. So i replaced and it keeps blowing. So i also notice about a two weeks before this fuse blew the over head trip computer was working (i believe this are on the same fuse?) The about a week later i hooked up the trailer brake controller using the ford factory harness plug. then the fuse to the running lights goes out a couple days later.
I dont know if this is all related but i think i would just let you know and see if you guys have any ideas?
I took the voltmeter and was messing around fuse #17 spot on the fuse block and it all look good.
I dont know maybe its a short? If so where should i look?
Unplug your harness from the taillights. It should be a T Connector in there with like a lil black box. Unhook the box and the two ends that are now free hook together. I had the same issue on my 94' Ford Ranger. I didnt pull anything for a few years and the cover was long gone and it got alot of junk inside of it. I hooked to a trailer a few months ago and it just popped the 15amp fuse about five times before I got smart and found that out. It should work. Please update and tell me if it works!
One more thing...When you do that, it wouldnt hurt spray the connectors down with some eletrical cleaner and after that dries put some diaeletric grease on it for a better contact and it helps to keep the dirt and moisture out. You can pick up a small packet of that stuff for about a buck at an Advance Auto, or an AutoZone.
Another random thought is to check all your overhead interior lights and bulbs for a short. Plus your courtesy light that is mounted on the outside of the cab with the third brake light. All those lights are on the same fuse on an '02. I had some water get into the outside light fixture and was blowing the fuse.
