Question Need help quickly (Turn and Brake lights)

Hello I am Michael and I have a 04 Expedition (EB) and need help with some problems that I am having with my vehicle. I am stationed in Japan and I have my vehicle here with me and have to pass the Japanese vehicle inspection. The problem is that I have to have a Yellow Turn signal, and the brakes have to be both on at the same time. I have relocated my reverse lights and wanted to use my reverse light slot for the yellow turn signal but I have run into a problem. The signal for the turn and brake light runs thru the same wire and I dont know how to fix it. If anyone knows how to split the signal so that the brake and turn are on at the same time I would like to know. Thanks for your help.

Michael

Not quite sure I'm following you. Do you mean that when you put on a turn signal that both the left and right brake lights have to come on with the one turn signal?

I think he means that he wants to have the turn signals separate from the brake lights entirely. So that the turn signals are amber, while the brakes stay on without flashing.

SG1NUT you are correct. I have been informed that I need to get some resistors in line to get this to work but I am not sure. Can anyone help? It is the European standard. turn signals seperate from the brakes.

to pass inspection here in germany, you have to have yellow rear turn signals at the rear end , separate from the brake light.

First find the answere to the following question:
does the 2004 Exp use CAN-Bus system?

If the answere is no, you re lucky
my 2003 Exp does not

from what i remember what was done to pass inspection was following:

- backup light was relocated to a position under the bumper
- the signal for the brake light was taken from the third brake light, using a relay to power the two (left and right) brake light bulbs
- for each turn signal a wire was run to the back, to get signal from the front turn lights, yellow turn signal bulbs (with silver/chrome surface) were put into old back up lights

some guys here ran into problems while preparing their mustang for the TÜV, because the 2005+ mustang has CAN-Bus. with only one bulb for the turn signal they had to use resistors or hidden lamps , otherwise they get a defective lamp message.
others did not use relays for the brakelight thing und got their SmartJunctionBox smoked

anyway it a good idea to use relays to power the bulbs (brake and turn)
resistors to make CAN-Bus think all bulbs are ok

I hope it gives you an idea how to rewire to pass inspection

here in germany we also had to add red rear fog light and and and
