I would go filter, test IP, then go inch by inch on the lines in that order of least hassle.

at the moment it wont kick over.. it just cranks..

the days leading up to today. it would take a lil cranking to get it to kick over.
if i went into a store for 5 minutes and came back out.. it would take a lil cranking.

if i left it for 4 hours it would take a lil cranking..

and every now and then no matter how long it had been shut off. i would get lucky and it would start rite up..

and like i said leading up to today. it has gotten worse over time (taking longer and longer to crank to get it to fire.)

and i had figured it was an air intrusion. and i was cranking to get fuel up to the injectors... then this happened today...

maybe fuel pump???

IP is the injection pump or "fuel pump" and if you had vacuum loss it would be from the vacuum pump or a leaking vacuum line. how are the brakes?

first off.DO NOT USE EITHER!!!
that is the quickest way to ensure you are going to be buying a new engine!!
once the either hits the glow plugs, it is BOOM!! time, and you will either blow a piston into the oil pan, or blow a head off the engine.

now that that is said and over with, you need to fully charge both batteries.
before starting, check to make sure the fuel filter is full.
with fully charged batteries and a full fuel filter, it should fire up.
another thing to check is the oil. is it overfull?? the lift pump may have died, and started pumping fuel into the oil pan.

Damn bro, the amount of shot me and bill are talking about wont do anything like that. It is the morons that spray a few second shot directly in the intake and the fire it up. I would be impressed if he is still using the original lift pump anyway. And just to bring you up to date, with fully charged batteries, he was able to drain the batteries so no it didnt start.

have you ever seen a diesel engine with glow plugs blow up due to either?? i have. 4 times. and each time it was from "just a spritz"

i would rather walk to a towing outfit before ever telling anyone to use ether in an engine.

"And just to bring you up to date, with fully charged batteries, he was able to drain the batteries so no it didnt start".

but did it have fuel??
that is why i said to make sure the fuel filter was full with the fully charged batteries.
all 6 IDI fords i bought new still have their origional lift pumps on them.

i didnt mean vacuum as in the actual vacuum system..

i meant to ask if the fuel pump was bad would that cause the air intrusion and make it the reason i have to wait for fuel to come back up to the injectors.

the IP being bad could cause a whole host of problems. would it cause air intrusion? Probably not, that would come from faulty connections. Have you taken off the fuel filter and checked it? Have you cracked lines at the IP? Get on it if not.

yes, a ruptured diaphragm in a lift pump can let air into the fuel system.

out of curiosity, how much fuel is in the tank??

the intank pickup tube is a know problem point. they usually break near the 1/4 tank mark.

yes mine is broken at the quarter tank mark. has been broken for some time now... but right now the fuel is at half a tank.

also if it was a air intrusion problem wouldnt it start at first (cause of the fuel that was left in the filter) and then die once that fuel was used up???
