Good evenin' everyone! I've had my Volant CAI w/ powercore filter for a little less than a year now and it's been great. I decided to pull it out and make sure there wasn't any debris in there and it looked good.
My question is how long are these filters supposed to last? Is there any detailed cleaning that I should do? Thanks in advance!
I just got a flyer with my edge from Autoanything. It was for K&N airfilters and it stated in it that they were good for 100k under normal operating conditions. Whatever those are I don't know.
I believe the powercore is a zero maintenance filter guaranteed for the life of the truck. By zero maintenance they mean it does not need to be oiled; it's a dry filter. I think all you need to do is knock the crud out of it every once in a while.
I am going to get something once my stock filter needs replacing. Do you like the one you have? I have heard that the oiled ones can mess up the mass air flow sensor. Anyone else have some experience with this?
I love my Volant CAI. The Powercore filter is oil-less so there is nothing to mess up the MAF sensor. Combined with my Edge tuner and Magnaflow exhaust I definitely feel a little more power. Whether I'm imagining it or not I can't say, but I'm very happy with the purchase.
Thanks, I have had 2 different vehicles with K&N with no problems that I was aware of but they were not CAI systems, just a filter. I will probably go with the Volant and Powercore because I see them mentioned in here a lot. My only question about that is: How is the lean condition affecting the performance and life of the engine? The Edge does not compensate for it so you would need a custom tune/tuner and a tuner/person with a Dyno. I did not go that route because I am not interested in ultimate freak power, just squeezing a little more out of my modest 4.6. Anyone have an informed opinion about that?

I replaced my regular Volant filter with the PowerCore one. The thing has been great. I had some drone from the first filter Im guessing pulling in to much air up at highway speeds. The new filter I don't hear a peep from.
