I have a 2001 Ranger with a 2.3l 4 cylinder Duratec DOHC engine that I had to but a head gasket on. After help from a couple other guys I got it all timed and back together.
I now need to install a new crankshaft sensor but the new one I received does noy have any instructions.
I currently have the engine at TDC by using the timing pin. I know the crankshaft pulley has to be lined up with the 6mm bolt that goes through the pulley into the timing cover. That is already installed.
What I am needing is detailed instruction on how to align the sensor. If anyone could help that would be very appreicated.
I've got the Haynes Manual for my 1998 Ranger, 2.5L 4cyl. The book covers all models from 1993-2008. Here's what the book says to dofor 2001 and later 2.3L engines.... Disconnect the battery, disconnect the electrical connector to the CKP sensor, set the engine at TDC, "With the special timing pin and crankshaft pulley alignment tool in place, remove the mounting bolts for the CKP sensor. To install the CKP sensor, install the mounting bolts, but do not tighten them. Adjust the CKP sensor by using the CKP sensor alignment tool, then tighten the bolts securely." Apparently, according to the book, the special alignment tool is sold with then new sensor.
To me, that does not sound very helpful. But that is word for word (in quotes) what the Haynes Manual says. Hope that can help you.
