I just put a rebuilt 7.3 In my project truck(2000 f350) and it wont start, cranks and cranks then after a few seconds it trys but I have to let off or the starter will burn up.
The HP reservoir is full of oil ,the fuel pumps pumping good, I bleed the air out of the heads till fuel came out, I did notice the tack is bouncing when cranking, but so does some of the other guages.
I have ran down the batters over and over trying to get this to start, at this point I dont know what else to check or do??? Help
Mods new injector nozzels 40hp
banks big head
wicked wheel
fluid damper
everthings new in the engine trans, tranfer case, and everthing I didnt replace new was off a good engine.

Reason: more info
Have you checked volts on batteries? Gotta have 10.5 volts while cranking for it to start. (Read that on here somewhere)
Others will add more soon I'm sure. And heres a bump up top.
The point at which the gauges are bouncing, your battery voltage is too low. Check the water, fill if necessary. Charge for a while. Try again. It will take a minute or two of cranking longer than the point when you think something is wrong. You really need a good set of batteries.
Timmy
Have you checked the GPR? What CPS did you end up with?
Whats the GPR, And CPS?? Im sorry Im not really up to all the abbreviations. I just bought new batters today and am going to try it again. I am also going to dissconnect the IPR sensor to see if that helps.
CPS is what sends the signal to fire the injectors, so if its bad you won't get it to start. If the tach bounces when you crank it, the CPS is fine. The recall gray CPS is a POS and prone to fail.
GPR shouldn't have any effect on your current no start situation. If anything, you'd just get a puff of smoke right after it fired if the GPR is bad.
Ok the batters are good, I switched the IDM. No diffrence in how it acts.
I unhooked the IPR and it wouldnt even try try to start, So I changed that with a diffrent one. No Change!
The Cam sensor cam out of a moter that was running fine when I switched this one. So Im sure its good. The tach is working when it cranks.
As of now, I crank it for about 15 seconds and then it will sound like its wanting to start, but no luck! It has a nice bit of black smoke coming out of the down pipe when it does try. Someone said to keep cranking and charging the batts and it will start? But at this point I really think somethings wrong?? Nothing in the world would require this much cranking.
lol....
My scanner says nothings wrong, How can I check the injectors??
I really do thank you all for your help, At this point if theres anyone around Cleburne Texas who knows 7.3s Give me a call Ill be happy to pay someone for help?
I need this truck running for next years , Pan American Highway to the tip of South America trip!!!

Is there anything coming out of the exhaust pipe? The only way to check injectors is with a buzz test. I am thinking you have a compatibility problem, truck does not like engine. This means wiring or PCM is not happy. Texas is a big state.
1) You kept the PCM that came with the truck
2) New engine....Long block only with reused injectors?
3) All sensors/controllors reused or new?
4) Glow plugs?
I think you still don't have fuel to the engine. You now say it is trying to start. Fuel / oil pressure is beginning to reach a point where there is some fuel getting to the cylinders but not enough to run.
If you still have air in the system and did all the "right stuff" it will start once you have it purged of air.
I have to wait because I cant figure it out myself,LOL

The whole story with the truck is....
I drove the truck to my farm to do the work on it, It was a good working F350 crew cab. 4x4.. Just has alot of hard miles on it.
I had build a custom short bed F550 4x4 frame with 12inchs of lift with 40"truck tires on 20'' "that size is the most avalable south of the border"
So I had the engine drivetrain and frame all together and just sat this 350 cab on it. Now it wont run!
I built the engine, Mike Smith machine shop In FortWorth did all the Machine work, It was the org f550 Engine and in great shape. The Injectors came out of another 7.3 I had out of a wreaked f350 And was a low mile moter thats why I used them. Iput the new nozzels on them my self. "wasnt hard, and everything looked good". All the rest of the sensors and wiring came off the other moter that was running before all this.
I have a diffrent Cpu and all kinds of parts to swap around, But they are all 99 and 00s They all look the same??
I need to do a buzz test (dont have what it takes) and Yeah prob some kind of compat problem!!! Need help!!!!
