a friend of mine got his pcm flashed and it updated it to the newer emissions and i was wondering if there was anything you could do to get it back to the original emissions?? any help appreciated, thank you.
he took it to the dealer to get it reflashed for whatever reason and when they did it came back with the 04' emissions instead of the stock and he said it doesnt run the same now.. his truck is an 01' 7.3

Sounds like EVERY reflash Ford has ever done.
"he said it doesnt run the same now"
There are a few places that can reflash back to stock. However, the Ford Dealership is NOT one of them. The protocol used by Ford dealers does not allow a "burn-back" procedure. You get updated flashes ONLY.
i will sure pass on the information and i will tell him to either ask ford for a redo or try again for a reflash from somewhere else, thanks for the help guys
You cannot reflash a eec-v computer with a P-tech computer strategy. It's not even possible.
What I think has happened here is your friend doesn't like the new flash for the 7.3 because it drives diffferent now. This is common. Or he got a young tech who has no experience with the 7.3. I vote for both.

I took my '01 to the dealer after I broke a ring gear to have it replaced and the service manager told me that they flashed my PCM while they had it. I lost 3 mpg after the reflash and I didn't even ask for it. I went from 18.7 - 19.5 to 15.8 and can't do any better!!! The dealership will only touch my truck now if I'm with it or I may put a lock on the connector.
