I'm new 2 this i hope im in the right spot Im running a 460 in a stock pulling truck and cant seem 2 get it over 4000 rpm wen hooked i have headers a weiand stealth intake and holly 850 on it im running a c6 trans with a 2000 stall converter a 205 t case in low 4.88 rear gears with 33 inch tiers any one with comets let me no im all ears
what cam are you using? aftermarket or stock? what heads are you running?
if stock, that is probably why. stock cams make most of their power before 4000rpm and run out of steam after that. also stock springs are probably only good to about 4500 - 5000 rpm before valve float sets in. the stock heads are also very restrictive on the exhaust side, so witout some decent porting, they are going to restrict your power level big time.
they are a few guys around here and on the 460ford site that are big time into truck pulling that can probably help you out. just give a little more info on your complete package for better help and advise.
the casting numbers on the block are D1VE-6015-A2B and heads are D3VE-A2A as fare as i know evrything in the motor is stock its not the origanal motor 4 the truck that one the oil pump went out
and it spun the mains its a DOVE-A block and has DOVE-C heds on it but don have the mony to fix it rite now
iv learned that changing the timing chain and gears could improve my power does anyone no of this or know Howe 2 re time them i did Ce a timing chain set in my summit catalog that's good fore + or - 2,4,6, or 8 degrees
what type of compression are you allowed? Compression will make a serious difference on rpm's. Higher the compression more the rpm's. If you can run 10 to 1 comp and maybe a 750 to 800 cfm for stock class. Need more info on rules to help out. The d3ve heads can be made to make decent horsepower but you have to do a few things. what exhaust, oem or header. Drop me a pm and we'll talk about what you can possibly get away with.
i puled apart the top end last night on a 460 i had laying in the garage and the timing chain set crank gear has 3 different spots fore the key way does anyone no if that's something factory or if it might be a performance mod
If it has three grooves in the crank gear for the key then this is an aftermarket unit. Depending on which groove you use and then that up lined up with the cam gear, will give you straight up, retarded or advanced cam timing.
Thats aftermarket. 4degree's advance and 0 degree's and 4 degree's negative. look on camshaft and look for numbers on camshaft might be something other than OEM?
If possible I would keep the C6 because of some cool upgrades internal. The 4speed is cheaper but if you have to shift you loose momentum and that hurts, automatic will carry on out without much loss of momentum. Sent you a pm and give me a call on some info you need to know. Need more info on 850 holley. If you only turning 4000 rpm its to big. But if you turn 6000 rpm it'll work with some tuning tips. The biggest motor doesn't always win but a well tuned motor is always competitive.
send a list of your rules to me in a pm and i'll help you with all the "Stock" info and combinations that i used to use 4 time champion NESO "stock" class
