460 the king of ford engines

i know this will start a war but of all the engines ford has produced the 460 has to be the best! For starters i have a yard full of fords, a 460,v-10 and 2 powerstrokes and before that i had anything from 351,302,300 260 v8
several 460s and 400s, not to mention dodges and chevys. i own a construction company and one truck we use most everyday is a 94 350 with dump bed 460.
i am not sure the miles because the odometer does not work and this truck does not even have air it i striped down.
i am guessing it has 400k miles and still does not use oil!
compared to today a 460 is mild and gets 10mpg no matter what you do, but they keep on going! yes they are slow and will not run 70 pulling 16k but over time people that has owned one of these engines for along time like me can say it makes you grin! people get a kick out of this truck and panic when they find out it is a 460, it is the old man on the block with snow on the roof but it still has the fire in the stove!
so the 460 has got the crown to be kind

So its old, it's slow, it gets bad MPG, hasn't been sold in 20 years, but it's so heavy and underpowered that it lasts a long time. Very resounding endorsement.

i have a 2016 f350 with dump body on its way with 6.2 gas, but my 1994 is not going anywhere, the 460 is not under powered at all, it is still a strong engine that works! 21 years and still uses no oil and i have had 4 ton in bed before while towing 12k equip behind it, and it still goes on, do i set land speed records no but it keeps going.
the 300 I6 is another engine that does not die.

I'll tell you of a ford engine that "has not died" yet!
My 2007 escape hybrid has 299,505 miles at this
moment with NO engine repairs!oil & filter every 5000 mi. 5 Air filters, 1 battery, two sets of plugs.

I've had 2 cars and 3 trucks with 460s. Yep, they are (were?) stout but even the now gone V10 F350 would run circles around any of those iron hulks including gas mileage, hauling capability, starting ease, quietness, etc, etc, etc. I wont get into the current 6.7 diesel's capabilities, but just say that it's an even more awesome engine.

Funny you mentioned the 460 not using oil --- if memory serves me, I can't recall many complaining that they actually used any oil. In the racing world, 460s have unlimited possibilities -- no replacement for displacement.

People has done a lot with a 460, I get a laugh when people tell me a gas engine does not last long, but these old engines keep going despite negative nonsense. Is it like my power strokes not even close to pulling power or mpg but it keeps going. But before power strokes the 460 was it and it still works today if you give time and do not expect 18mpg.

What's the point of singing the praise of a 460 in a forum about trucks that never came with one?

BTW, my last 460 used oil and was noisy, whereas my V8 Triton is quiet, doesn't use oil (at nearly 300k), and handles everything that the 460 it replaced did.

460's are not junk or underpowered, they are the best engine built ford built so far, look how long they was used and applications, that is hard to argue when you look at the time it was used and still used today. What I see now is the ecoboost that will lead for next generation but for now the 460 is still beast so far.
