hey guys i picked up a '90 f250 with the 460 in it. im wanting to run straight pipe from the manifold to the tip. what do i to with the egr and o2 stuff? i want no cat and no muffler
Those are lines from the air pump. They can either be plumbed back into the exhaust or just cut off and left going nowhere. I'm sure you could strip the rest all the way out as well. You'll probably have a check engine light with no cat FYI
No cats or muffler no problem. If u want to delete the air pump then u need either an idler pully or a smaller belt. Good luck figuring that out. People ask on here all the time. Then Ull need to plug the erg where it needs to still not throw a code or run like crap if not done right. Dont ask me how bc I don't know plus i wouldnt mess w it. Too much trouble unless u know what u are doing. Do some long tube headers and not worry about the erg delete unless u really know what u are doing IMO
Leave the EGR and the O2 sensor intact. Messing with either of those will cause the truck to run poorly as the computer wont know what to do. Any of the air injection plumbing that is after the manifolds can be vented to atmosphere, just be sure to plug the holes in the exhaust. Just a heads up, it will be stupid loud, for me too loud, and will draw a lot of attention which is not always a good thing. Think cop magnet. You may not have emissions testing where you live, but I can guarantee there is a limit on the volume of your exhaust. Not to mention it is still a federal offense to remove or modify emissions system like the CAT and air injection regardless of where you live.
My F250 with a 460 has no cat, 3 inch pipe and a Banks muffler. It is LOUD. I can't even imagine driving one with just a strait pipe. You might as well throw away your radio and forget about ever ordering anything at a drive through.
While I am a big lover of straight piped trucks/cars/anything that can move it can and will draw a boatload of unneeded attention and if you are like me and do allot of miles you will hate it if it drones and you will hate it if you flat out cannot talk in the cab or hear the radio when moving down the road. If I ever got a second truck as a play toy then no cats and no mufflers for sure as it would be a weekend toy for fun. But if you daily the thing then I would at least vote a cheap short 12 inch glasspack to kick the edge off it.
IMO a better way to go would to just get headers, cut off the cats if you really want to, then put free flowing mufflers on it, then dump it after the cab. I have a 97' with the 460, kept the cats, stock headers, and put a flowmaster super 10 muffler on it, kept the original tips. Nice deep tone to it in the lower rpm range. Without cats, and with free flowing headers, it would be as loud as anyone would want it to be.
it is not a race car that runs at 8000rpm. A STOCK engine needs restriction
No it doesn't. Urban myth. Restriction is bad for power at any RPM or state of tune. Too large of a primary tube header will reduce torque at lower RPM but in no way is it a restriction. Restriction in any way, shape or form is bad for performance.
