95 300i6 muffler

I have a 95 300i6 and love it. I bought it two years ago and put a series 40 flowmaster muffler behind the two cat. I recently discovers a hole in the 2.5" pipe behind the muffler that make the truck sound funny. I was wondering if I could remove the last with out any issues and put the muffler on behind that? That would make the truck breath better right? It would also put a new 2.5" or 3" pipe behind the muffler too. What do you think? Would it sould better too?
