95 300i6 muffler

I have a 95 300i6 and love it. I bought it two years ago and put a series 40 flowmaster muffler behind the two cat. I recently discovers a hole in the 2.5" pipe behind the muffler that make the truck sound funny. I was wondering if I could remove the last with out any issues and put the muffler on behind that? That would make the truck breath better right? It would also put a new 2.5" or 3" pipe behind the muffler too. What do you think? Would it sould better too?

Thanks,
Ryan

Just to be clear, the hole is between the cat and the muffler or is it in the tailpipe itself.

I would think you could just cut the hole out, move the muffler a little closer to the cat. If you where going to do it yourself you would need to expand the pipe coming out of the muffler so you could slip it over and weld it back to the pipe. I doubt you would see any HP gains. Is it a big hole?

I just checked and actually the hole is behind the muffler. Takinging off the 2nd cat won't hurt anything right? Just allow my truck to breath a little better. Correct??

assuming the truck is like mine which is a 93, the pipe between the 2 cats is a 3 inch square S bend. this means you have to bend the exhaust from the first cat up over the transfer case mount and down the rest of the run. so you really should leave a cat to avoid the trouble.

If your going to take the 2nd cat off, you may want to check the local laws on emissions so you don't get into trouble. If you don't have emissions yank that joker off. Heck while your at it take the precat off run you some straight pipe down the same side, get you a 2 in2 out muffler and really open it up.

"Heck while your at it take the precat off run you some straight pipe down the same side, get you a 2 in2 out muffler and really open it up." What is a precat? and what do you mean by "you some straight pipe down the same side, get you a 2 in2 out muffler" There is some type of (o2) ? sensor on the first cat, so I don't want to mess with that. Right?

Thanks in advance!<!-- / message --><!-- sig -->

If you look at where your 02 sensor goes that is your precat just after it, you should have 2 cats on your truck. A little cat(precat) and a big cat then the muffler. My suggestion would be to cut the 2 pipes going into the precat just below the 02 sensor. Weld you on some new pipes to the ones that will be existing when you take the precat off, run them down the right side of the vehicle into a muffler that has 2 inlets and 2 outlets. Flowmaster make one as well as a couple of other companys such as summit.

An o2 sensor determines the air to fuel ratio of a combustion engine is rich or lean, the computer will make adjustments. You will need your o2 sensor for the computer, but you don't need your cats.

Just make sure to check your laws on emissions before you do it so you'll be legal
