I replaced the balljoints on my '89 F150 4X4. After getting everything back together I went to pump everything up with grease. Only then did I realize that the zerk on the upper balljoint cannot be accessed straight on with a grease gun. I shoulda put right angle zerks here. Don't want to tear everything apart so does anybody have a slick way of greasing these zerks. I have about 1/2" clearance between the top of the zerk and the spindle knuckle. I need a very low profile right angle grease gun tip or a right angle needle tip. Don't know if these are made this tight tho.
Thanks for the reply. I haven't solved the grease zerk problem yet. Kinda put it on the back burner as the truck is still in my shop with the motor out. The angled zerk would probably work if I can find one low enough profile. I was also thinking of custom bending a needle to hit these if I can get the needle bent without collapsing it altogether. Wish I woulda noticed the problem before I put everything back together!
In case you have not solved this yet, NAPA sells grease adapters that push on straight. You need only about 3/8 clearance. We use to use them for the occasional FWD Chrylser that came in the shop.
I picked up that grease gun fitting yesterday at NAPA. It is made by Thextron. This is PERFECT for greasing the lower balljoints (or any other tight quarters zerks for that matter). Only takes up about 1/4" and slides on at a 90deg. angle to the zerk. Everyone should have one of these in their toolbox. Thanks again Rebocardo!!
