I have a 1995 7.5L in my Class C motorhome. The airpump is pulley is starting to squeal.
Can I bypass the airpump and use a shorter belt to go from the fan to the alternator? Will it hurt anything? If I do have to replace the airpump, is it hard?
If the bearings are making noise, you can take it apart and grease them. They are not supposed to be servicable, but they can be taken apart and reassembled without damage. I took mine apart, gutted it, greased the bearings, and put it back together.
I tried using a shorter belt and it didn't work. I used the same length belt everyone else used on the 351 (94.5") and it started jumping off as soon as it stretched a little. If you are interested in taking it apart, I will give you a more detailed explanation on how to do so.
Yes, I would be interested in repacking the bearings. When I spin the bearing by hand, it binds/sticks on the revolution. How tough is it to make it happen?
