I was told I needed a new ECM. I have noticed the part numbers I have are listed for a BCM (Body Control Module). The part number is xc3f-12a650-ayb. The part number for the ECM is listed as MTC-101. These numbers are on the Autzone website. The truck is a 99 F250 SD, V10, 4x4. Also, the xc3f-12a650-ayb is located behind the emergency brake and kick panel. Is this the ECM?
The ECM (electronic control module) or PCM (powertrain control module) is the truck computer located behind the e-brake pedal on the drivers side kick panel. I have no idea what a BCM is, or what part of the Body needs to be controlled by a module.
Nothing against Autozone, but I'm not sure if I'd trust them for a computer. If you go that route, be sure to let us know how it works.
Thanks for the reply. I do not trust Autozone, just using them for references. I am not sure where to buy an ECM. Ford wants $475 for one. I am planing to use a preowned ECM to verify that it is the ECM. Are the ECM's vehicle specific or are they V10 specific? Will one out of a E250 work?
Sorry, I'm not familiar enough with the gas motors. I'd guess you need to make sure it's V-10 specific, and if there were any changes in the motor over the years, you'll need the correct "family". Hopefully someone with more knowledge on the gas motors comes along and can offer better advice.
