I'm working on a 1988 super duty with the 7.5 and am looking to order a new ecm. The ecm I have is numbered E7TF-12A650-CF1A and there is one on rockauto that is numbered E7TF-12A650-CFA. I want to know if it will be compatible. I don't know what all of the individual numbers and letters on the ecm stand for.
(I have recently learned) It gets kinda complicated with what some (not all) think will be a reasonable replacement P&P, with no reflashing or reprogramming. It might depend on customizations and features you have. If you find the exact match car-parts.com is good place ebay also not so cheap though. search PCM ECM and the usual on google and here. Many suggest any series in the model code DPC_nnn "should usually work". Some r&r (return and repair) experiences are ok but usually failure. I have my own thread going with a "probably defective" pcm on my 2002 SD 7.3... the suffix at the end CD CF CG are Ford upgrades accommodating newer models maybe with new features but usually best to go up it seems (use a CF for a CE but not a CD for a CE).
