Broken dipstick tube

I recently purchased a 2002 F250 with a 5.4 Litre engine. There is no dipstick tube, it must have rusted off. I want to put a new one in but can not find out where the hole in the block is. Where could I find this info?

Thanks,

Danny

This is a Lightning 5.4 but the block is the same.

Thanks for the pic. I can not tell from the pic exactly where it goes into the block though. It is not very easy to see the side of the block while it is in the truck so I am hoping to see a pic that shows where it enters the block.

it goes in to the block between the second and third exhaust port on the drivers side of the block.

yikes !!!! dipstick rotted off

My dipstick rotted off the other day right where it meets the block.Took it to the shop and my buddy said he will have to take off oil filter bracket which is behind the drivers motor mount. Will require lifting the engine up a bit to remove the the oil filter bracket. He said he hopes he can get it out with an ez out .If not the whole engine will have to be pulled. If your manifolds are rotted or your oil pan is rusty you should plan on replacing those also.

exhaust bolts

If your engine has to be lifted to replace the fill tube you should get your plugs replaced also.I am in salty upstate NY so i am having the plugs, exhaust manifold bolts and the oil pan replaced now to save some labor later.

are they not just a light press fit in with an o-ring like they use to be? I've put several in older 302,351,460 and even a 7.3 diesel. by bending a prybar or screwdriver I was always able to just pop them out. now, getting them rebolted to the manifold...that could be a different issue. easier to make a new bracket and clamp it elsewhere with a hoseclamp.

ok, I was bored so I just went out and rolled under my 05 150 and a 04 SD both 5.4... they ar ejust like the trucks I've done. long screwdriver, you can see the flange on each, given the SD is harder to see but I'd say it should not be that bad of a job at all. soak the area with a good penetrant for a few days, but as that tube has been real close to all its life oil I've not come across one that was rusted to securely into the block. maybe you'll be lucky and find a bit of tube still attached above the flange that you can grip on to.

Not so easy

Mine rotted off right at the block.Nothing for vise grips to attach to at all.Could not even see it.I hope it is easier on your 04 because my oil filter bracket covered it up and that was behind the motor mount.Don't know how you would have gotten a screwdriver in there to pry it out.Engine had to be tilted to one side.
