well i had it in the truck for over a hour and got no where
odd think tho, the flash drive has a light on it and it would go off and on for long periods of time
Yep...the light goes on and off with big gaps between...you have to go until you get the second message saying the install was successful though. If it's still working for you with the old version, be happy. I've heard of people having to spend hours with the sync people to take it to stock.
I'd like to know what all gets uploaded in the Vehicle Health Reports. I can see it being useful if you get a check engine light... I can also see it tattle-tailing on the driver, especially if you do aftermarket modifications (tuner/programmer, for instance).
Interesting you asked that question. More information is available at the website. One of the things you must do before you can use that feature is agree to a waiver. Ford can retrieve diagnostic information and/or code retrieval for their use using your phone and phone service. That part bothers me a bit. Ford is using my cell phone and plan for their benefit for free. I couldn't remember the extent of the information Ford can retrieve. On the consumer end, the information you'll receive isn't too earth shattering. Notification of an error code or maintenance service interval is approaching. If they're able to peek and see if you are using aftermarket programming from this service, I don't know. My guess is they're downloading a lot more than just check engine codes or mileage.
SMS, I believe... since it wants your phone number. It's almost certainly not using voice - can't pass data of any advanced nature across the GSM codec.
and i've been told onstar spys on service recoreds, so why not ford, they could save alot of money in warrenty work if that would be ture[/quote]
Well the point may be mute, if you read in the owners manual its says the vehicle may collect data which may be used in the event of a crash, etc, its says Ford will not use this info, but may release it if under a court order by authorities, so evidently there is a black box in there somewhere. If the truck learns your driving habits for transmission shift points, etc, then you might as well assume Ford can download any data that the computer can log.
Yes these car companies are the biggest bunch of crooks on the face of the earth and will try every trick in the book to void your warentee. I used to work for one of the majors and know them well, and now one company is 60% taxpayer owned so it will only get worse lol.
