well i got a coupon from ford and my local dealer to upgrade my sync to have the 911 assist and vehicle health report
says its only 49.95
what i'm asking is for anyone who has it, is it worth the time and money to get ?
sign up at www.syncmyride.com and do it yourself for free. All you need is a thumb drive, a full tank of gas, and some patience. PATIENCE is the key. The dealer has to do it the exact same way. There's no magic involved. Read the instructions twice, print them out, and do it yourself.
well i just check it out the 911 and health are the only ones you can't do at home
For Your 2009 Ford F-150
This SYNC update requires a visit to your local dealership. Please print the Request for SYNC Upgrade form before calling an authorized dealership to make a service appointment. Be sure to bring the printed form with you to your dealership. Dealer service fee may apply.

Weird...I guess mine had the 911 and health thingie in it when I bought it. I downlaoded the new updates though, and Sync doesn't make any mistakes anymore. Didn't make many before, anyhow.
well it kicked my butt ... i looked more into i not sure it worth 50 and also i don't think mine can be update, because on the sync page it say about not being able to up date trucks that are built before 2009 and i think my build date was in november 08
Really, the features you are missing are not critical IMHO. Both use your bluetooth phone. In the event you become knocked out cold in an accident, the 911 Assist would be useful, assuming the phone is within range of the truck and the truck still has battery power. Too many conditions for the 911 Assist to be a serious must-have safety feature. The other feature uploads vehicle operating information to Ford from your bluetooth phone. Personally, any benefit is so small, it's not worthwhile. Again, these points are my humble opinion.
If you can sweet talk your dealer into updating sync at the next oil change for free, do it. But if you have to pay for it, then I would say I'll wait until it's free.
I'd like to know what all gets uploaded in the Vehicle Health Reports. I can see it being useful if you get a check engine light... I can also see it tattle-tailing on the driver, especially if you do aftermarket modifications (tuner/programmer, for instance).
