Wireless networking ?'s

So, im thinking about setting up a wireless network so I can get a laptop and surf the net while sitting on the couch. Now here comes my question. I already have a wired network setup in my basement, if i were to set up wireless do I have to get the wireless cards for each of the two computers or can they be pluged into the wireless router? Also this might be a simple question but will the laptop even pickup the signal upstairs if the router is downstairs. The room where the router will go is roughly underneath the living room where i would be using the laptop if it matters.

You need a wireless card for each computer and a wireless router.
My router is in the basement also. I have no problems with signal strength.
I can use my laptop four doors down without a problem. I love it. I also have a wireless printer.

wireless routers have ports for direct plug in while also giving the wireless capabilities. I have two computers hooked up directly to my wireless router and my wife uses her laptop for school upstairs with no problem. I even have an old computer out in my garage (mainly to play music and internet radio) that can pick up the wireless network. Depending on the router, signals can usually travel up to 200 or so feet. So you could take your laptop outside and get signals. Also, when I search for wireless networks within range, I usually am able to pick up 2 or 3 different networks from my neighbors, but low signals. If your router is in your home, no problem to pick up signals anywhere in your home.

You need only to get wireless adapters for your desktops if you want them wireless.

I got your same setup except my Laptop already has a wireless card built in, all you need is the wireless card for your laptop and a wireless router for your Desktop system. And you should be fine with reception trough a floor.
