Hi all,

We've got an '05 F-350 with a banged-up tailgate. I'm looking for a cheap replacement used tailgate that will fit. Can anyone tell me what year range would be compatible with our truck? F-250 or 350 gate will work, but would an F-150 gate work?

 

For Super Duties, a tailgate from 99-07 works; an 08-09 will work too but I think you have to move the catch tab mounted in the bed.
Yes, an F150 tailgate will work (I've seen it on a few trucks) if you use a fleetside truck tailgate (not a stepside) from 97-03(?? whenever the swoopy body style was changed).

 

The following will fit your truck:

F250/F350 - 1999 to Present
F150 "Heritage" - 1997 to 2004

I don't know where you are in CA but here is a 2008/2009 tailgate for $350.00 on eBay.

The 08 tailgate needs the left side hinge.

I located a 2016 F250 tailgate, arriving soon from Indiana. I want to install this on my 2006 F250. Can someone confirm all I need is the 2016 LH (Driver side) hinge roller to accommodate the upgrade? Any tips very much appreciated! Thx, John, "Left" Coast.

 

So a 2018 will fit on a 2005?

 

Well, the post you quote is dated 07-16-2009. And a 2009 will fit...
But I believe it has been established that a 2018 will not.

 

No a 2018 tailgate WILLNOT fit. 2016 and older will, 2008 I believe and newer need a new left side hinge, Ford calls it a roller.

 

Hey all, i have a 1998 F 150 with a banged up tailgate and i found someone selling a 2004 F 250 in good shape that has the same measurements. Will it work?
