Will a 2008 tailgate work on a 2000?

My friend has a 2000 F350 and the gate is rusty so I've been trying to find him a new one. I found a good deal on a 2008 gate but want to be positive it will go on before he buys it.Thanks

I can't say for sure but I would say yes! I know I have a 2005 and I don't recall any issues putting a 2011 - 2015 on my truck so I don't see why a 2008 would be any different. I could be wrong though and wouldn't be the first or the last time.

Yes it will fit. You'll need the hinges as well.

Thank you guys. The gate doesn't have hinges but I'm sure I can find him some. Can the existing hinges be modified?

I'm pretty sure you only need the left one.

I put a tailgate with the grandpa step and stripper pole on my 2002. Not sure what year the tailgate was but it went on without any problems.

You only need the hinge if it has lift assist. Or so I read on the interwebs. Lol

That makes sense. The one I put on my 2002 did not have lift assist. It educated my why they came up with the assist. It was heavy as H.E. double toothpicks!

Have a 2015 now and it is much easier to close.
