I gained over 1.5 inches when I swapped mine, but my V codes were shot. I like the ride and handling better with the X codes.

Were they new X-Codes? Why so much of a difference between the amount of lift between yours and Jasons?
My X-codes were brand new. My stock springs were worn but they weren't real bad. The only reason I changed them out was they would sag to much when I have the plow hooked up. The sagging would allow the edge of the leaf to rub on the plows mounting bracket.

If anybody's interested, I used a write-up for an Excursion to do this (in addition to my shop manual). Apparently there's less than 1" of front end travel before the stop (something about a low nose to fit it into the garage). I don't remember who originally posted the write-up in the Excursion - King of SUVs forum, but here's the link:

http://www.supermotors.net/clubs/for...stry/9/54681-2

I will say, however, that I do NOT recommend re-using the U-bolts like the guy did in the write-up. I ALWAYS replace anything that is a torque-to-yield part. He also mentions that there were 2 typed of U-bolts, one was roudned, and one was flat with rounded corners. When I got my parts from Ford, they gave me the flat with rounded corners (which is easy enough to confirm by just poking your head around your tire and looking at what you have). I don't know what years are rounded and which ones are flat, so the visual check will confirm your style of bolt.

You can use this write-up for any code of spring you want to install in the front. The X has the same front end setup that we do, so it's accurate.

For those running x code springs... Do you notice a considerable improvement in handling? I'm not looking for a 2" lift really, just much better handling. Any running Bilstein 5100's with those x codes?
