Rear mounted camera install
I am far from finished, because I've only had a little bit of time to work on my truck projects the past few days, and I'm doing more than just the camera install, but here's what I have so far.
I decided the best place to mount the monitor was on the trans tunnel floorboard. I liked the way it looks tucked up under the console the way I have it.
I hate having to use the power plug inserted into the power point/cigarette lighter to power up the monitor, so I removed the bag hook holder to the right (two small screws on the bottom, and it comes right off), which allowed easy access to the wires for the power point.
I cut the wires, and using some connectors, wired the monitor into the power point wires, then fed the monitor wire down behind the console.
This is a much cleaner install if you ask me.
I also will eventually power the rear camera through a rocker switch I plan on mounting in that outlined cut-out spot just to the left of the brake controller. That way I can power up the rear camera whenever I want, and not just when the truck is in reverse.

Oh yeah, I hated having the stainless steel screws sticking out like a sore thumb against the black background of the mounting plate, so I painted them black.

PS - Thanks again, VA!
I've been thinking about a back up camera. I've read the various threads about the different types of systems. I think i would like the rear view mirror monitor type.
As of now my kids do a fine job of guiding me back. After we got the "my right or your right?" cleared up, they put me right on it. They're even using the hand signals I taught them.
Has anyone tried to install the camera on the inside of the truck right behind the rear glass? It seems that this would make it super hidden (clean) and also water-tight with no penetration outside the cab.
