Question Light ping sound at Light acceleration..??

SO this morning on my way to work i was going from a 45mph to a 65mph and was barely on the gas and i heard a light ping sound. I made sure i was not hearing things so i made sure i could do it multiple times. Recent work done Changed plugs to Champion 7989 Amsoil had 15,000 miles on it with new filters at 4000 intervals. And i was running CA40 fuel additive "which i have now stopped using" Truck is a 2004 5.4l 24valve with 80k After work i tried getting it to do it and of course it didnt. After work i dropping oil and filter and went back to Motorcraft 5w20 Syn blend.

Spark knock or cam phaser rattle? Oil condition is very important for the phasers.

Spark knock could be from carbon build up, wrong plugs or bad gas. Your truck should run just fine on 87 octane but some of the lower tier fuels do not have much in the form of detergents. Try using Shell, BP Mobil etc and see if that makes any difference. Not sure about your plugs, are you sure that is the correct plug? Side note, did you have any problem getting the old plugs out?

I run 93 octane gas in my truck and it runs better... I used reg for 45k of the 60 that are on it now. When using reg i heard a slight ping... super nothing the truck pulls better and runs cleaner and i get better mpg. so for the extra 30 cents a gallon it is its nothing to me.

I am having the same problem with my 05 F250. I have the Champions in it also. They have been in the motor for a year now, and have had the pining issue for the last couple of months. I have been using Pennzoil Platinum the last few oil changes and was thinking about trying to do a change with the Motorcraft oil, and seee if a carbon build-up is the problem. I have tried several fuel system cleaners and it hasen't helped. Post if the oil change has help, I'm curious as to whether that is the solution.

If you read your manual you will see it reads there is suppose to be a slight ping upon acceleration. And,it reads to run 87 octane gas.Anything higher in octane is just masking a problem you are having......and causing excessive carbon to build up too!

Light Ping Sound

I have 2008 F-150 King Ranch it is a Flex Fuel,

It has had the ping since 10000 miles, Dealer has replace Shortblock, Cleaned Heads, Decarboned 4 times, Replaced Computer 2 times.

I replaced the Plugs, oh yeah the cost of 8 plugs is over $125.00, and you can only get them through the dealer. I know, crazy. And no this is not the cost at the Dealer to have them replace them, it was me buying them out of pocket and replacing them myself. Dealer cost to replace plugs is over 250.00

And this is NOT ping on Tip in that you get in acceleration.

There are 2 options on for that year, one has Brown Boot Coils the othe has Black Boot Coils. Mine are Brown (Flex Fuel)

2 Ford Engineers agreed there is an issue, then 3rd Ford Engineer showed up and listened to it for 5 min and declared there is no problem. BS

This truck is a real peice of crap...

The Dealer and Techs put 4000 miles on it (not sure why or where they went, but come on 4k miles)

The truck now has 40+k miles and has gotten worse. And now a puff of black smoke comes out at first start of the day. Got to love that carbon build up

I have filed a complaint with Ford, and they offered 4000.00 to go away.
I have declined, Off to court we go...

And before all the gear heads chime in with the gas issue, I heve tried 40+ different gas stations, The Oil is changed by the Dealer.

I will never buy another new Ford again.

From what I can tell there are numerous trucks with this problem.

I will NEVER buy another Ford new again. I have been a loyal Blue Oval guy since I was old enough to know better (25+ years). I have purchased 6 New Truck in the past, 4 at the same dealer.

For Ford to blow us off like this is absurd.

Oh yah and if you tell me go but Import or a GM,
1. If you have not lost your job yet, keep buying imported goods.
2. I will never buy a GM (Government Motors) vehicle.
3. Dodge, no, No Fiat either.
