brakes

Okay so im having a little problem with my brake system in my 05 f150 xlt supercrew. every once in a while when i go to put on the brakes i get nothing but squishy pedal and no stopping. brake will go to the floor almost and i have to swerve to miss the car in front of me. not very fun. anybody have any idea were i should look. truck just had the brakes done and rotors done right before i bought the truck. work was done by a dealership.

First off, I would contact the dealer that did the work and see if they would take a second look at it. Just replacing rotors and pads shouldn't have any effect on the hydraulic system. If you are going to check it on your own, check out the brake fluid in the master cylinder first. If it is low, top it off and see what happens. When the pedal goes to the floor and you have no braking power, something is seriously wrong. If you have to top it off, or even if it has enough fluid, take a look at all the lines, have someone press on the brake pedal and then check if there is fluid leaking from a line, fitting or on the calipers themselves. Also, double check all the rubber lines going to the calipers to make sure that they are not cracked and leaking. If everything else checks out, the master cylinder has failed and needs to be replaced.

Hope this helps!

Could be low fluid as posted, could be a leak as posted (if it was a leak by now you would be empty), could be a vacuum issue to the booster as posted, etc.

My question ... does it firm up after a few pumps? Another possibility is air in the lines.

If it was a bad booster, you would still have brakes but you would just have to push harder.

yea i would vote for air in the lines because he said it happens every once and a while. I would just go ahead and bleed them just to rule out that possibility if it does not fix it.
