I have my daughters 2004 Explorer aprt and the blend door actuator out due to stripped gears in it. I have bought 2 replacements so far and neither one will work. I am plugging them in and they will not turn, thought i would check them before i installed them. The old one will turn when I turn the switch, both of the new ones I bought do nothing. The replacement looks the same but the plug is on the back rather than on the side. What's the deal here? I bought them at Advance Auto. I really need to get this thing back together and I really don't want to put one in that doesn't work! Thanks for youe help.
When you say that niether one of them work, do you mean you actually watched the actuator out of the plenum and it did not turn when you turned the ****? Or do you mean that you cant switch between hot and cold?
I have seen reports that the aftermarket actuators do not work on Gen 3s. I'm not sure, but perhaps they are intended for the Gen 2s. I suggest you get a motorcraft actuator.
Take a look on this site, there is a great instruction for fixing the blend door. When mine went bad on our '96 Explorer it was not the actual motor but the shaft part between the motor and the door that broke. If that is the case with yours, then replacing the motor will not do anything at all since the motor is not the problem.
How does the actuator turn if the gears are stripped?
Take a look at my gallery and you will see what I found in my daughter's 97 Ranger. There is a low dollar fix for the broken shaft on the blend door itself but it would not help me as you will see in the gallery.
