pump gears misalligned

pump gears misalligned
i have an 83 6.9l and the pump is off, mechanic says the pump was installed at the in correct postion. how do i find tdc on cylinder one and then change the pump to where the allignment dowl is at 4oclock and the motor is at tdc and there is supposisvly a y on the pump and a y on the drive that must also line up if anyone has any help for this project it would be much appreciated. do i need to pull vaulve covers? how do i change the pump gear location?

thanks everyone for the help it was mucha appreciated and as of about ten minitues ago the truck runs and runs great i am so happy it turns out the pump gear was off thanks again for all the help!!!!
