I'm fabing a custom CCV mod and need to know if any one has had any issues by plugging the intake and just filtering the CCV to atmosphere. I can't see why it would have to be a close system but figured I would ask the experts.
The only issue with what you describe is: by doing it that way, you will add some VERY SLIGHT backpressure to the crankcase. There is some vacuum created from the intake air flow pressure drop that you will not have available if you vent to atmosphere. Granted, it is not much, but it is some. I think most folks will say that venting to the atmosphere will not be enough backpressure to hurt anything. I chose to be more conservative and reconnect it as a closed system. An inspection of the intake a year or so after installing my 1st ccv re-route filter proved that it was keeping the intake VIRTUALLY oil free.
The Racor ccv filters can be expensive. You can search the internet to get the lowest price. I wanted a Racor filter for a couple of reasons, but one big reason is that they published horsepower and flow specs. I wanted to minimize backpressure.
Mine has been routed to the atmosphere for over 2 years with no issues. The best part is that my EGR is spotless. I know of another guy that has his the same way because we did them together and he has no issues either and does a lot of dirt road driving.
