1950 F-1 Starting problem
We just got a 1950 Ford F1 with a Flathead V8 that's been converted to 12 volts. We hear the starter turn but it won't turn over the engine. If we push it and pop the clutch to get it started it does start and runs well. It was starting ok a month ago. Any suggestions on what the problem could be and how to fix it. Thank you in advance

Sounds like the bendix drive spring might have broke. It's a fairly common accurance. You can buy new ones from any place that sells reproduction parts or a good local auto parts store. NAPA may also have them or at least can order them for you.

I would take the starter off and make sure you still have teeth on the gear...

I read, or heard (yeah heresay) that if it's 12V conversion from a 6V, the starter may be trying to engage too quickly with the higher voltage. Is there any truth to that?
