I have a F250 that I haul a 5th wheel with. I have been battleing this issue for a while now and it is gotten to where I cannot convince my wife to go too far from home.
I had my 97 transmission rebuilt a couple of years ago after we were stranded on the road with our dog and 2 small kids. When I had it rebuilt I included a triple clutch TC and a towing shift kit, I also included a MagnaHytec pan and external filter along with a temp guage. Oh yeah and an additional cooler. Every since then I have had a cooling issue that comes and goes. Sometimes the fluid is circulateing fine and the temp will stay around 160 f and then it will just stop getting to the Aux cooler. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? It is driving me crazy! <!-- / message --><!-- BEGIN TEMPLATE: ad_showthread_firstpost_sig --><!-- END TEMPLATE: ad_showthread_firstpost_sig -->
Yes, it's a ball and spring. It is not a check valve and it is not a thermostat. It is a pressure relief valve. If the coolers are plugged the pressure gets high and moves the ball off of the seat, allowing flow to the rear of the trans.
