i dronve about 20 miles most of that on the interstate on the way back to my house the truck would not go over 35 mph. when i try to give it the gas to go it will hit 2k on the tach and then drop and bog down. no codes have showed up in the computer yet. so what is causing this. the truck has 197,800 on it. i forgot to mention i drove to my dad's and let it sit there for 3 hours or so and then drove it home after i helped him with his truck. he followed me all the way home and the truck did fine.
3 months ago or so. but if it was engine then why can i put it in park or neutral and rev it to 3k with no problem. this was 1 min. after it was doing as described above.
It is not unusual for an engine to rev freely in neutral but bog when you put it under load. You say there no codes, did you pull the codes and it came up "system OK"?
I think, if it was me, I would look at cleaning the EGR valve.
Hopefully you will get more opinions.
yes it gave code 10 or 111 for the current code and none for the memory codes except for the converter clutch excessive slippage that it's had since october. thus why i think it's tranny related. every now and then it send 617 618 which are shift error 1-2 shift error 2-3
no it doesn't smell burnt. it is a little discolored. i did a fluid filter change in october when i got the truck. but at the time i was not a member here and did not know that i could drain the converter also.
i don't know how to describe it. it would hit 2k then drop and i'd try to give it more gas and it would just bog down (sounded almost like a lawnmower trying to die) and felt like it would nose dive and was trying to slow the truck down instead of speeding up. if that makes anysence at all.
i tried replacing the solenoid pack to see if that would help. and since doing that it slips all the way through 1st gear when warm. and when it shifts it shifts extemely hard. so am i do for a new e4od.
i replaced the vss yesterday after reading another thread. the truck no longer slips through 1st but for the first 3 miles it shifted really hard. then it went to working just fine. went over to a friends parked the truck for about 15 min. then went home and it was shifting hard again. so does anybody have any idea.
I could be dead wrong but... Did you pull the negative battery cable off and step on the brake (to discharge all electricity) to reset the computer after the fixes?
Not sure if this is nescessary or not but at least it's easy and free.
i tried the cable thing again and it was still shifting hard but not as hard for the first mile and then it stared shifting hard and slipping in first and second. i can put my foot to the floor and the rpms go up but the truck hardly moves. but it doesn't make sense to me that it will be fine and then it goes to S###.
