I have a 97 f-350 with 7.3 power stroke 4x4, it has a E4OD trans.
It shifts ok most of the time but when cruising at 55 mph the engine runs at 2200 rpm, sometimes it shifts fine and it runs at 1800 rpm at 55. Sometimes seems to double shift at the third step. I can toggele it in and out of overdrive with push button and trans. shifts down and up like it should, increasing the engine rpms by about 600 to 700 rpm.
Has anyone seen this problem, or offer any insight to what the trouble may be.
I'm wondering, like Falcon, if your TC is slipping. Doing the TC switch mod would tell you if its slipping. Its a easy mod of spliceing into one wire back at the trans and putting a toggle switch in the cab. You could lock your TC to see if its in 4th gear or slipping in 3rd gear.
I have my truck back in the shop because of this. I had a new tranny, TC and flexplate installed at the dealer late last year. Since then, the dealer had to replace the "new" TC and front pump.
I'm beginning to think I should've spent the money on swapping in a handshaker.
If this doesn't get resolved soon, I'm gonna setup an appointment with dealership owner.
I wonder if a bad CPS, ICP or VSS could cause these problems.
I have this same problem in my new truck as well.. I had it into the trans shop already and they said it was a bad TPS.. I swapped them and still same old crap goin on... I just keep disconnecting my battery to take it out of limp mode, Shifts fine when the light is not flashing but once it starts it shifts real hard taking off...
My cruise control does work, most of the time. Sometimes it shuts off / deactivates for no reason. I'll have it set at a certain speed; the truck "kicks" a little and the cruise control is deactivated (like you stepped on the brakes); I press "Resume" and she accelerates to the previous speed setting.
Other times, she'll kick out of cruise and not want to "Resume" no matter what I do, so I use my right foot and set the cruise control again.
Edit: (From a previous post) - I wonder if a bad CPS, ICP or VSS could cause these problems.
