Ok, my 65 Ford F250 has a beautiful dash... which does not work. Seems there was a fire at some point in this truck's life which burned up some of the wiring. But, none of the gauges work, even the ones with the wires intact. We've found a wiring diagram and would like to know if anyone has had problems with the constant voltage unit or anything else. Grounds? Something else?
Believe the one component all the gauges have in common is the CV unit; suggest test, should fluctuate between 5-10 volts. Also, if your truck has the plastic CC instrument cluster, I added a ground strap from the metal portion of the cluster to ground under the dash.
The day was spent at the DMV getting tags for the beastie so I just finally got to check back in. Thank you for the help, and CS thank you very much for the offer. Going to check the.... thingamabob, and I may take you up on it.
HA!! The main problem was when we took a good look..... all the wires were gone under the hood. There was a cluster of wires cut, but there were also two other which look like plugs? We're working through all of them one at a time. The horn had a bad ground, and we think the speedometer cable is frozen. The gas gauge we also think is frozen. Tonight we're going to pull them and check. It's too hot right now.
I love this truck. I've never had something I could really work under the hood on. I've done the suspension work on my jeep, lifted the engine, worked the transfer case, but the I6 still has a lot of computer components. This is too much fun.
ya...the temp and oil pressure GAUGE both have 90 degree elbow pushon connectors. The oil pressure LIGHT sending unit is a slide on blade type connector. The sending unit is the small round unit about as big around as a quarter approxamately. If you end up needing a fuel gauge or in tank sending unit, I have both of those as well. There should be a ground wire on the tank sending unit from it to the rear cab stiffener brace immediately behind the tank which runs side to side in the cab. Sometimes if you simply slide the main connector(also a push on elbow) off and on it gets a good connection and viola...gauge comes to life...also, its possible the sending units brass float may have come off as it simply snaps on the sending units arm in the tank.
Theres also the possibility the gauge reads way off...depending on how much gas is in it.
