I have a 86 Ford Bronco with a 302 block from a 79 LTD II and I just replaced the intake manifold with a Edelbrock 2121 intake manifold. The previous owner installed some gauges and disconnected the gauges in the dash which I am trying to correct. The quakes he installed was a 3 for $20 deal or something of the kind. Anyway, the coolant sensor and oil sensor have been replaced with non electric sensors and the wires have been cut that originally went to them. I think I located the original wires, though very dirty and hard to distinguish the colors, one is red with a white stripe which I believe goes to the coolant sensor and one is white with a red stripe which I think goes to the oil sensor. Is this correct? Also to replace the attachments on the end of the wires which kind of attachment will work? Will a "cap" type work that pushes on from above? And which sensors do I need? Will a Borg-Warner sensor with a screw type top work if I use the wire attachment I previously mentioned? And will the same sensor work for both applications? Thanks for your patience. I am having a very hard time undoing what someone else did very badly. Thanks for your help!
You should be able to get the senders from any auto parts store. Just make sure if you have gauges the senders are for gauges or if lights they are for lights so they will work right.
Stock they would of had rubber 90* push on ends on the wires. The senders would also have threads where the wire goes on them.
Now you may not be able to find the wire ends, I have never seen them offered any where. You can use nuts that fit the threads of the senders & lock washers to hold the wire on after you put eyelets on the wires to fit the senders.
As for if the right wires or not? Maybe someone can say what the colors should be but want to say the oil PSI wire might be purple? If they are the right wires if you were to ground them the lights, if good, should turn on.
If you feel brave you might try grounding the wires you think are the right ones.

Thank you. The gauges are the originals in the dash gauges so i'll get the gauge type. The wires I found cut were taped in a bundle of other wires leading to the distributor, ignition coil, etc, so they are probably already grounded. I'll look for a purple one.
Up in the stickies you will find a link to the Motorcraft pigtail and socket catalog.
It's divided by number of wires in the connector, so it's pretty easy to get the number for the connector you need.
Then just search that Motorcraft # for the pigtail. (it comes with a splice and a nice piece of adhesive lined heat shrink tubing)

is there any way to tell what they are for (gauges or lights) just by looking at them? I do most of my shopping on amazon and they don't have a description on most of their senders.
If you want to verify which wire goes to which gauge and make sure the wire and the gauge are working, take the red/white wire or the white/red wire and with the key in run touch the wire to the engine block. Someone in the cab can verify which guage swings full scale the opposite way. Take the wire off ground and the gauge will swing back. The other wire should make the other gauge do the same thing.

That is what I meant on grounding, wire to ground to see what gauge (in your case) moves or light comes on.
As for senders the temp both look the same that I have seen.
The oil if gauge is a large can type but if light is a smaller short type sender.
Just know the light type senders are a on/off so if hooked to gauges they would not move the gauge till temp is too high or oil psi too low and the gauges will go to max.

Thanks. I ran into another problem. When going through the jumbled mess of wires I found three that have been cut, the white/red, the red/white, and a new one, yellow with black stripe. Not sure whats what now.
Thanks for the sender temp shapes. All of the gauges are original so none are light. Does the oil sensor go into the block on a "jut out" from the block next to the fuel pump that looks like a vacuum tree with only one hole? Or am I missing something?
Just touched the wires to the block. The white/red is oil and the red/white is temp. Still have no idea what the yellow/black does. Touched ground to it and nothing happened. Where does the battery voltage wire come from and go? I can't seem to find it. I also am having trouble with my fuel, but that would be inside the tank wouldn't it?
