First of all, thanks to all of you for your expertise. I am a newbie who is on my 3rd F150. I took my 2004 to the body shop for some rust on the right bedside panel. Body shop guy tells me that there is some type of fiber cloth material on the inside of the panel which had retained moisture and caused rust through from the inside. He added that Ford had some type of program in the past to correct this "design flaw" but that program has "expired."
1. Is there any reasonable chance that Ford would fix this? Is it worth my contacting Ford? Has there been any class action on this matter?
2. If Ford does not take responsbility, is there a good source for a economical replacement panel - my body shop guy said a replacement would run around $2500.
Yes, there was a recall for that issue. However, if you are not the original owner they may tell you to get lost unfourtunatly, but give it a shot. The local dealer may be able to help you out.
the warr. is longer on rust than the 3/36 i am not ral sure what it is. like some one else said go to your DEALER and talk to the service manager and see what he says. the recall may be done but you should still have rust through warr.
Take a look in your manual, it should state the corrosion warranty length and mileage if there is a mileage. If your within it you should be able to get it fixed for free. But make sure you show your dealership that you know about the corrosion warranty, if not they might try to charge you. I had that happen with my chevy, it was within the federal emmissions warranty just barely and they had to replace my ECU, which is covered by it, and the service manager (which a monkey would have known more than this guy did) didnt know the truck was still under the federal emmissions warranty until i brought it to his attention. The lack of knowledge that some of these service managers have just blows my mind!
