I have some grey non-oem seatbelts in my truck, but I would rather have the OEM retractable kind.
Did Ford make the retractable style in Grey? My truck originally came with the red/maroon and I have seen black, blue and even green at the junkyard, but never grey.
More curious than anything. Just sucks having to constantly deal with the seatbelt just flopping around or even accidentally closing the door on it too.
I noticed that big-time on a truck in the yard... I was looking at the shoulder belts that were a nasty off-black color... pull on the belt and it looked brand new.
Seat belts can be died different colors. I did it for the mustang and now have to for this old ford truck. RIT brand die works well, isn't that hard to do, but takes alittle time. Spray the vinyl parts with spray die. I don't know if you can go lighter or not. The grocery stores carry RIT and it's only a dollar or two.
I guess my question is were the 73-76 trucks able to be equipped with GREY retractable seat belts?
I have seen every other color, but Grey for some reason. I've even seen that hideous Fiesta Orange in the junkyard.
If it comes down to it I might just go ahead and get some black ones, but would prefer Grey as everything else in my truck is now grey; headliner, door panels, visors, seat and the aftermarket non-retractable belts I have now.
The truck I just bought has some issues w/ seatbelts. Someone removed the shoulder belts and cut and mangled the steel anchor point for shoulder belts. Seems they tried to mount speakers in the pillar steel. I am installing lap belts in the truck until I can address that issue. Someone removed all seatbelts from my truck. Apparently it had been in storage for many years. I would try to die the belts gray. Might work just fine expecially if they are faded.
I don't know either. What if you started with an orange/brown seat belt?
It's been 15 years since I died the mustang belts. I think you boil the die on the stove, I can't remember for sure. I'll be dying the red belts black or brown for my truck sometime this week. For the couple dollar cost of a die package, it might be worth a try.
Here's a thought: What about using something like Rit Color Remover, oxygen cleaner (OxiClean), or bluing to fade the color out of the belt first then dye it?
You'd want something that won't harm the fabric of the seat belt, but I would think it should be possible to find something that would "bleach" the belt enough to make it possible to re-dye. Maybe test on an old black junkyard belt first...

Hmmm... didn't know such a thing existed... might have to check out Wal-Mart later. I'll probably check out the junkyard either tomorrow or Thursday.
Seatbelts are only $3 a set there. I might check out some of the newer cars with the retractable style shoulder belts that ran along the door opening. I remember my mom's Dodge Colt Vista had that style where the shoulder belt and lap belt were seperate.
