I bought my '06 F150 FX4 SCREW about a month ago. Stupid me, I forgot to check the key in the tailgate as it looked a bit newer than the rest of the truck. Anyway, the ignition key doesn't work in the tailgate lock. I don't want my tailgate to walk away. Can a dealer provide me with the correct lock cylinder to fit my ignition key if I provide them my VIN number?
I'll be posting pics of my new rig shortly. I've got to say this truck is a far cry from the '00 F250 SD XL trim work truck I've been driving for the past 5 years. Some new 20" Michellin rubber and a set of the Go Rhino dominator II nerf bars set the truck off nicely. Now for the Magnaflow exhaust and Edge tuner and I'll be sittin' right nice!
I had to "re-key" a buddy's lock cylinder a month or so ago when he had to get his TG replaced. The new cylinder came with all the pieces necessary to make it work with his current ignition key pattern.
I'd go with Buck's recommendation of finding a reputable (auto-friendly) locksmith to have it re-keyed for you. Last I looked it was about a 10-20$ service around here (minus labor removing/replacing the current cylinder).
If you feel capable enough about digging in to remove and replace the cylinder it should be a cheap fix for you.
Good Luck!
On Edit: After re-reading your post I may try to see if the dealer would meet you half or all the way on getting this resolved since it is a fairly recent purchase.
