New 2017 F350, read the whole manual and cannot get my tailgate to lower. It must be locked but no place for key, keyfob has no effect. I know I must be stupid, but this has me beat. Help!

 

well if you need it open right away take the 6 torx screws off the liftgate panel and you will see the lock mechanism. should help you out until you hit the dealership.

 

Did you hit the unlock button on the FOB twice within three seconds? It can be switched back and forth were one press of the unlock button will unlock just the drivers side door requiring a second press within three seconds to unlock all others or were one press unlocks all doors.

 

Thanks to all! I locked the doors with the key fob and then hit twice to open everything. No problem now, but do I feel dense...

 

If you want to change it to one press to unlock all doors hold both the lock and unlock down for four seconds

 

Mine did the same thing, was like that when I bought it. They replaced the actuator. If it acts up again.....

Try this, obviously with the tailgate up, press the button and pull the step up about a foot and let it slam back down and mine opened about 75% of the time after doing that. Other than that, wouldn't open and also had to do that for the service guy so he could replace actuator. Haha.

 

Wait! Well, for anyone who has this issue...

I had this with my 2017 Raptor when I got it last month. The tailgate worked once but then it wouldn't go down.

I checked online and sure enough this was the problem: The black rubber "bumper" pieces mounted to the truck had rotated around and it was putting pressure on the tailgate keeping it closed so it would not release.

Solution: Push on the tailgate while releasing it via the tailgate button or keyfob. The tailgate then released and I could see how the bumpers on each side of the truck had rotated out of position - you can see how they should be oriented - so I rotated them to the correct position and now the tailgate works as it should.

Glad I was able to find this online otherwise I would've taken it to a dealer for this.
