So i hook up the horse trailer to my 02 f350 and go to test the lights before leaving and they are not working. I check the plug connection and wiggly it around to see if that would do it or not, but that did not help. Look under the truck and everthing look go as far as the wires go into the hareness. So i didnt know if it was my truck or the trailer. So i back up my girlfriends truck next to it just to hook up the lights and they light up!
So know im wondering what to look for on my truck that could be cause it? Trailer brake controller? Or possably a fuse? and if so which one?
Well, since the problem isn't something specific, like just the left or right blinker light, etc., but instead its all the lights, then its probably either a bad ground or a blown fuse.
If this is a truck and trailer combination that has worked together in the past, then its a fuse or fuse relay, which is extensively discussed in my vehicle's owner's manual. If you don't have yours, I was thinking maybe they're available here on line?
On the other hand, if this combination of truck and trailer hasn't been used before, I'd test the integrity of the ground connection by using jumper cables to clamp between the trailer and truck chassis. It seems in many instances people try (improperly) to rely on the ball for the ground, which only works intermittently at best....
