Isn't a gooseneck hitch unusual for an F150? Don't forget towing is only part of the undertaking, you also have decent stopping capabilities in case the trailer brakes fail... Gooseneck and 5th wheel hitches are usually put on SuperDuties, aren't they?

Not a lot of responses here. You might try the SuperDuty forum.

If it is a B&W Turnover ball, I dont think it will fit. I recently installed a B&W in my 07 f-150 and 07 f-250 and they were totally different.

It won't fit, the rails are different. A F250LD's hitch will fit though. I have a B&W out of my totalled 2002 F150 that I'm selling... make an offer?

Goosenecks for F150's aren't terribly common, but they are available. Usually you have to custom order. I towed many thousand miles with my 7k horse trailer, its definately possible!

You don't say what model your F150 is, but the only F250 that was officially considered a '98 was the LD, so I'd think it should prob'ly work if your F150 is a '97 - '03. Of course, if yours matches up with grafekie's, that'd be good, too.

Nothing wrong with pulling a gooseneck with an F150, just as long as it's not too big. Given a choice of say, a 16' bumper pull livestock trailer or a 16' gooseneck livestock trailer, I'd take the added stability of the gooseneck every time - especially with a half ton.

There is no Heavy Duty F250 in 1998?

As long as you don't overload, gooseneck's are great. My trailer can fit 8k more than my truck can pull, lol... until I upgraded.

The last model year for the "old body style" trucks was 1997, the first model year for the Super Duty was 1999, though they were first released in late spring of '98 I believe. So there were no '98 F350's, and the only '98 F250's were the light duties based on the F150 body.

Very true that's it easy to overload an F150 with a gooseneck if you're not careful (been there, done that... more than once), but if you mind what you're doing, they work just fine.

I didn't know that! Doesn't make much sense to me :P Wonder why they didn't make them that year?

Since they were totally redesigning the truck I imagine it was for extensive retooling.

Right. If I remember correctly, the original plan was to have the Super Duties out by Jan. '98, but they didn't quite make it - seems like it was maybe May before they got them to the dealers, and so they ended up calling them 1999's. I do know that the 97's got pretty scarce before the '99 Super Duties became available, and the F250 light duty was the heaviest Ford pickup available on the lots for a little while, at least around here...
