As can only happen on July 4th, I got my truck running but it hear a "whistling sound" like the you in "Oh say can youoooooooo".
I start to hear the sound after the truck is running for around 10 seconds. It's faint...then again ...the truck is running. When I shut the truck off, the ooooo sound gets deeper and stops aprox 2 seconds after the motor is stopped.
I can't locate the sound...though I'll try more tomorow. I just put rebuilt heads on the engine. Do you think it could be the vacumn canister? How about the smog pump? The may be a leak from the exh manifold to the pipe.
if the sound continues after the truck is shut off, I would guess either the brake booster, or the vaccume reserve can. being you just did the heads, I would check all the vaccume hoses, lines etc, and look for someyhing broken, or disconnected
ssquints999 says it happens with (his) truck. I've never really had this truck running in "quiet" mode. I bought it with two cracked exh manifolds so it's always been loud. Now that I've got it rebuilt I'm hearing things that I never have heard before. It may have always been there.
So, I'm torn...should I keep looking for the sound and then fix it...or should I just let it be?
Well I wanted to record the sound, but I went out there with my wife and she started it....the darn then never made the intro sound....also when she shut down the engine....nothing.
We tried several more times, with her revving the motor...still nothing.
So I think the motor may have to be runnning for some period of time before it starts making the sound.
Any ideas?
Maybe tomorrow I'll runn it for a half hour then try to discover it.
