If you open the fuel bowl and turn on the key does the fuel start spraying out in a stream? It should spray out as if it has a nice good working pump in the line.

You can remove the mixing screens as long as you put a filter inline between the tank and the pump. If you go that far, you might as well do all the in tank mods so you're not picking up any air from the return line.

How much fuel is in the tank now? Blowing the line back cleared all the fuel out of the line. Now you just have to get fuel back in there. Fill the tank up enough, and the fuel should come out on it's own. Otherwise you need to convince the fuel to start coming out of the line before you stick it back on the pump. Suction on the line, or use your air compressor set to about 20 psi. Wrap a rag around the blow nozzle and stick it in the filler neck. Put a little air pressure in the tank and it should start pushing the fuel through the line.

You may or may not have an obstruction. Right now you're still fighting getting the prime for the fuel pump.

I will try that out tomorrow F350-6. If that doesn't work well is it possible that I can take the line hooking up to the fuel tank and running it into a bucket of diesel ?? Would it almost "replace" the fuel tank and let me eliminate the possibility of a tank obstruction?

Yes it would, on all counts.

It will do exactly that, so no worries. Try it. I am not sure this is your problem but it will definitely eliminate the tank obstruction.

Edit: What Dan said.

OK I think I got my prime back.
I tried putting some pressure back into the tank but I didn't have any luck.
I then went and submerged the fuel line after the tank and before the pump into a cup of diesel. I turned on the pump and immediately sucked the whole cup dry. I did this 2 more times and then tried to start it. After some huffing and puffing it finally started up. Idled like crap for a good 5 minutes and then it was idling normally. I'm hoping that I got my prime back and it's just not burning the fuel that was sucked up there through the cups.

I also went into the fuel tank to try to fix my fuel gauge but it still is reading full when I know there is not a full tank. Does anyone have a picture or diagram of how the float is correctly supposed to fit onto the in-tank sending unit? Thanks for all the help so far.

Wow edub, I'm sorry your having so much trouble with this. When I took my fuel system apart and back blew all of the lines from the filter on back and into the tank, and replacing some lines etc, I didn't have any problems gettn'r primed and started. I just hope you got this time.

Maybe this will help you out......

BTW, have you opened the release valve on the fuel bowl and then turned the key on to see how it flows? Is it a nice strong stream of diesel?

For purposes of illustration to answer your question about the fuel level sender, ignore the fuel pump mod.
It's the best two pictures that I have of my sending unit.
.
Now about the fuel pump...... you would never, ever, ever lose prime if your pump were located where mine is.

The truck drove fine for a day then the problems started again. Anyone know a good mechanic in Columbus or nearby? I need to get this fixed and I'm sick of dealing with it.

Did you ever inspect the screens in the mixing chamber, or just play with the sending unit? Which problems are back? Running issues or the gauge one?

I've pulled the screens on the mixing chamber and in the process must have damaged the sending unit or messed with the float wrong. The running issues are back. Drove it for about 20 miles yesterday fine and then today went out the driveway for about a mile and it started to run rough, no power, felt like no fuel pressure. Does anyone know of a reputable mechanic in my area?

Thanks

Did you put the screens back in? Don't want to suck up any trash from the tank into the fuel pump.

Sorry, but don't know anyone in your area, but if you can drop the tank and check out the screens, why not just buy the new parts and install it yourself?

Because I'm not exactly sure that's the problem. I've pulled the screens, cleaned the screens, reinstalled the screens, ran great for a little while, pulled tank, checked screens and they looked good, and its stalling again.
