july chat thread
the drill is gonna be i'll start the new thread and topics can be re opened or left alone, i will ask that arguments would be kept to a minimum, discussing and arguing are completely different you know the difference!
here is a link to last month's thread and a link to this thread will be included in august's chat thread https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/8...ss-thread.html
well here's my big find as of late, tonight i nabbed 2 10' woofers in box, new out of the box, 2 6x9 3 way speakers in boxes (not so new), a new in box 400W 2 channel amp, and all the wiring needed to install the items for 50 bones.... a girl i work with bought them new 3 years ago and never bothered to have them installed, got sick of looking at it and needed cash to move, heard i 'liked car stuff' and offered me all of it for like 300 bucks, i told her i'd think about it and then she said 50....
gonna put the amp on the 2 woofers i got in my truck and the 2 6x9s in the doors of my truck (i've been told they'll fit correct me if i'm wrong) then gonna put the 2 10's in the olds ricer, which still isnt road ready... my laptop is still being worked on but they've found the problem and the parts are ordered so..... god knows what that means!
here they are guys kuz this post would suck without pics

keep on kickin a$$ FTE!!!!

His post in the Chat Thread
Personally I see no reason or advantage to start a new thread each month.

However, Chat threads are mostly text and should not be a concern, If it was a thread full of images then that would be a little different.
If they are concerned about server load and or bandwidth then they should clean up thier act and remove all the trivial crap poked in on every square inch of the pages.
ie: Poorly written dynamic ads from POS providers!

Trending Topics
riven site run by Linux + Apache + PHP + MySQL. Each time somebody asks
for a particular thread, the system needs to go figure out which posts make up
that thread and then provide links to them, then send off the final product to
the requesting user. I can see it being less intensive an operation for the
databse if there aren't "many" individual posts involved.
If you haven't noticed, they seem to have truncated a LOT of stuff recently!
The Colorado chapter used to be, I don't know, N posts in size, where N is "a
big number," but there are now only 5 threads showing. I don't know if all of
the old stuff has been perhaps moved to a different database or if they merely
deleted it all; this site has been running since somewhere around 1996, and the
resulting database size I imagine was non-trivial as a result.

BTW, If it's running on Newbie unix (Linux) then I can see the concern.. What a POS!

I have run several forums of my own, and worked for some of the largest online retailers in the world including Barnes and Noble.com, Morgan Stanley and Reuters.
At Barnes and Noble.com we averaged over 4 million hits a day during Christmas when I worked there over 8 years ago.
Try indexing a database with all of those books, authors, titles, ISBN, etc.......

O-yea, Don't forget the earplugs when you return!

If they are really worried about the db or space they could remove the dead chat threads. However that is pretty much pointless without rebuilding the db and that is not something that is quick to do or easy on a 24/7 system.
And I highly doubt they are using MySql it's really not robust enough for such a large system.
I also suspect it is running on a *BSD (likely FreeBSD) not Linux.
