u joint????

u joint????

hey i need new you joints for my front drive line and i want to get quality ones (spicer) but cant find the part number for them does anybody know what it is??? also any tips on doing the u joint change?

I don't know the # but a big hammer and a second set of hands. I used a socket that fit over the shank (the socket would sit on the rim of the u joint the the shank would fit in side) and then I drive the old ones out, don't know if that is much help.

You can also use a bench vice and a couple sockets to press the u-joints in and out.

yeah thats what i figured i would have to do just wanted to make sure.....if no one knows the spicer part number do you know if the front and rear joints are the same?? cause i think i might of found a part number 1350(5-178x) but i was told that was for the rear drive line

I know that there are at lest two different, i know the one that is at the front axle is different than the one in the rear.

yeah your right looks like the cap size is the same but the actuall body of the u joint is bigger to reach the larger diameter of the rear drive line maybe .....if i figure it out i will make sure to let everyone know the right spicer numbers so they dont have the same headache.

Are you looking for the u-joints in the front axle or front drive shaft?

The front axle should be 5-733x for non-greaseable and 5-806x for greaseable

The front drive shaft should be 5-799x for the non greaseable and 5-178x for the greaeable

im looking for the front drive shaft u joints... i been looking into it and 1350 series 5-178x is what i found but then some know it all parts shop on ebay told me i was wrong and those were for the rear and 1330 series 5-213x was for the front.....well i got some 1330/213x u joints and they were way too small looked like half ton

yeah the 1330 is for most dana 44's... the 1350 is what you need

alright well tank you everyone for the help but one last quick question would spicer even make a u joint for the rear since its a sterling 10.5 not a dana?

the front & rear drive shaft u joints should be the same
