Mine is the Gold from Factory.I called my chevron dealer and they only carry Cat ELC 50/50 and a cheapo.I will see if I can find the Zerex.I know its not sold here, maybe a larger City parts store. Thanks for all the post Guys. Carl
if you really want to put the gold back in napa carrys it... zerex g-05.. and youll have to ask for it.. they keep it in the back...
i agree with izzy... if your going to change it use zerex... especially if you have the yellow (gold) in it... if its red use it, if its green use it... the color codes are there for a reason because of their chemical make up and what they do for your engines...
You seem to be saying something different than Izz, or did I misunderstand?
You're talking about color coding and staying with the same color, correct?
Joe is advising to completely flush the system and then refill with a heavy duty Extended Life Coolant (ELC) like the ones he and I have listed above.
Using an ELC is what's best for these engines, according to International who made the engines.
he said either/or in the first post... ive never used the ELC stuff so im not going to say one way or another on it.. so no im not putting it down either.. all im saying is used what the mfg recomends to use and not just changing for reasons of how easily other stuff is to find.. if the mfg recomends another type that can be use for your specific engine and year.. then have the system completely flushed to get the original out and use it..
reason i bring up the color coding is its done for a reason.. not just for a brand thing.. color coding has to do with their chemical make ups of the coolant itself.. changing from one color to another can have disaterous and costly effects to the engines...

I'm trying to understand where you're coming from, so please have patience.
You say you haven't used an ELC, so you won't recommend it, nor will you put it down, yet you state changing from one color to another (for example lets say from the gold to a red ELC, or the older green to an ELC) can be disastrous.
Please explain how.
You say to use what the manufacturer suggests, and International, the manufacterer, suggests an ELC for the late 99 and up 7.3L PSD's.
So if someone with a 2000 7.3L does a complete flush to remove the green, then refills with an ELC like the manufacterer suggest, why would it be disastrous?
Nobody suggested a change to an ELC because of how easy it is to find. ELC was suggested because it's the best coolant for the '99 and up 7.3L engine, as recommended by International.

The following info is a cut and paste from a post by Gooch, noted coolant expert:
Additionally, these days it is not appropriate to identify coolants by color. Color means nothing. A "green" coolant could be anything from a conventional, to a pre-charged, to a G-05, to an ELC. Same with red, purple, pink, gold, etc. You have to know what type of coolant it is.
