Just got back from a vacation to Colorado from San Diego. First day traveling, blew a trailer tire in the middle of the desert (30 minutes on the road with the spare). Second day traveling, in a slight pull and lost all power. Had to keep on throttle just to maintain decent speed. Would shift to 5th or even 4th even on level ground. Also see black smoke at all times, even down grade.
Sounds bad, but were proud of the truck. It kept running for 42 miles to get us to the next town instead of leaving us stranded out in the middle of the reservation with nothing around. Upon pulling into the town (Kayenta, AZ) as soon as the truck idled down the engine quite and we coasted to a stop behind a fast food. No start, hot or cold.
Truck was towed to Cortez CO to the nearest dealer (Keesee Motors), were they fixed in a day and a half. Was a failed HPOP STC fitting.
Anyone in the Cortez area, I would highly recommend the Keesee Motors. They went above and beyond to get us done in a day and a half instead of the original 4 days estimated. They also kept us well informed and were very helpful. - Tony Finch, Service Advisor was very helpful.
My question:
I was under the impression that on the '06 the HPOP STC fitting had the new bracket installated that prevents this from happening. Is this true or did I misunderstand?
From all the research I have done, the bracket was installed in the "late" 06 production trucks. The upgraded fitting came out in 2007 (earlier in the International vehicles).
Edit - I think it was August 2006 for the bracket.
Bismic:
Your always a fountain of information. So my truck did not have the bracket (early 2006 model so built in late 2005). Is there anyway in looking at the work order (or oasis) that would indicate if they installed the bracket or just fixed the seal??
The part number should be listed on your work order. Post it here and someone can verify that it is the upgraded fitting (ie not a replacement in kind). It should also be on the OASIS report.
The part number they installed is: 4C3Z-9B246-D.
Can someone tell me if this is just the replacment part, or is this the kit with the new supporting bracket??

I should have done this before, but Googled the part number and it came up with references that all look to be the same kit. I guess my assumption regarding the last character being a revision was correct. I found reference to a -A, -C, and -D all with the same kit picture. Don't know what the subtile differences might be, but it appears this is the kit with the support bracket, regardless of suffix. I will breath a little easier now. Thanks all for you input.
