Yes they look like that and I quess the theads are tight enough that they don't move when set. The 2 that are 3/8's must have never been adjusted when the engine was rebuilt. I did not go over the clearances when I got it back but should have and will now. I have a high lift cam in this motor and the valves were opening some but not much. I also have a set of copper head gaskets coming so Maybe I can get it back together by midweek with a little more confidence.
To check valve clearance....... roll up tinfoil into a ball about the size of a pea, stick them to the top edge of valves with a little superglue. Reassemble with old gasket and torque normally. Turn over by hand a couple times.......if the valves are close, the tinfoil will squish out and leave an impression. Remove heads and check thickness of foil. It worked for me. As for your gasket problem, you will probably have to use copper ones....T/M
I big ball of clay, or PLAY-DOH works great too. Just flatten it out over the top of the piston & roll the motor once or twice & check the thickness of the play-doh afterwards.
you want those of us here to play with playdoh ????????? criminy i'd be building clay model ford trucks amongst other things and never accomplish what i set out too ...............
